Nigerian Students Storms Asaba;


NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS, JOINT
CAMPUS COMMITTEE (NANS JCC DELTA STATE AXIS)

 On the 28th April 2017, the Leadership of NANS JCC
DTS Axis led by her Chairman, Comr Ogonegbu
Chukwunedum Precious, led a massive peaceful protest
against the continuous killing of our people by the Fulani
Herds Men.
The Demonstration which started as about 10:17am from
Interbua roundabout by Shoprite , was in two face.
The first stage, the Nigerian Students on Aluta Songs,
Chanted from Interbua roundabout to the State Government
house, in Solidarity with our brethren and parents,
demanding for the immediate evacuation of the Fulani
Herds Men.
The State Governor who just arrived the Country spoke to
the Nigerian Students through some Government Official,
which Includes the SA Students to the Governor on
Students, the CSO to the State Government House, the
Director of State Security Service, and the Commissioner
of Police.
The Chairman of the Association while addressing the
students, press men of the news, staff of the Government
house, said, the Aggrieved Nigerian Students in the State
has come out in mass to register there grievances by
taking it to the street, "since we are no longer save in our
state and the Government of the day seems to be
comfortable with the situation on ground, since they have
refused to attend or tackle the issues affecting us", quoting
that "the State Government saw several letters we have
addressed to them in regards to the attack on us by the
herds men, but they refused attending to it, not until the
elapsing of our Ultimatum" he added.
While responding to the students, the Special Assistant to
the Governor on Students Affairs, Comr Ehiwario Jerry, on
behalf of the Governor, appreciates the Nigerian Students,
and also state that the Governor just arrived the Country
and as a matter of sincerity, he is not in the state capital,
but he had sent him down to speak on his behalf.
The SA Students while responding to the NANS JCC DTS
Axis Chairman, he demanded for the Position Paper of the
Association which was formally presented to him officially,
he said the state Government is indeed working seriously
to ensure how they can find a lasting solution of the
Menace of the Fulani Herds Men, and saying we should
keep faith strong as in no distance time we will see a
positive result, as even the State Governor is not even
happy seeing his beloved Citizens perishing day after day.
The SA Students who pleaded with the Students
Community to shield their Sword, and wait for a positive
result, gave his word to the Nigerian Students whom he
represents that the State Government will in matter of
urgency attend to the issues on ground.
While responding back to the SA Students, the Chairman
NANS JCC DTS Axis, Ogonegbu Precious C. said the
Nigerian Students are intellectuals whom always believe in
dialogue method of resolving issues, for that the Nigerian
Students will shield their sword, but before that, the SA
Students as the number Students in the State, will join the
entire Nigerian Students in the Struggle of Solidarity, on a
peaceful manner, take a walk to the Police Headquarters
to hear from the Commissioner of Police.
In contribution, the NADESSTU National Vice President,
Comr Ugagaoghene Ogheneyole also appreciate the state
Government for their listening ears always, saying he is
believing that the State Government will hear the voice of
her citizens and will find a lasting solution to it. In
addition, he appreciate the SA to Governor on Students for
his care and love towards the Students, noting that the SA
is always striving to satisfy the want of the Students at all
time.
After leaving the State Government house, the SA Students
on the move, in collaboration with the NANS JCC
chairman, lead the second face of the massive peaceful
protest, starting from the State Government house, Anwai
road, down to the Police Headquarterstarting from the State Government house, Anwai
road, down to the Police Headquarters, Okpanam road,
Asaba.
Getting to the Police Headquarters, the SA Students and
the Executives of NANS JCC and SUG PRESIDENTS from
different institution, went to the Office of the
Commissioner of Police, while under students waits
behind.
Addressing the Comm. Of Police, the Chairman read the
Position Paper to the CP and presented his to him.
While responding, the CP thanked the leadership of NANS
JCC, for the way and manner they use in ensuring the
protest was not hijacked by miscreants.
He said even the Police force are affected also in this
saga, adding that the menace of the herds men is a
National Case.
The CP who sober, said the herds men has indeed done
more harm than good, even as a force, the herds men has
killed more than 6 officers, buried some, drain some and
many more atrocities they have committed. The CP while
adding to it, he said the state government had sent up a
committee already, which are in the issue, he said and
brought our evidence, how one Mr Oyibo,the ring leader of
the herds men has been in detention for the past four
months.
The CP said the Nigerian Students should note that the
Fulani herds men are citizens of the country and have right
of living, but that should not mean they should have right
over some ones live, and for that reason, during the State
Security meeting in Asaba, they have search out modalities
on how to get intelligence to enable them put a total stop
of the problem bestowed on us by the herds men. The CP
said he understand our pains, and we should note that
some of the herds men have stayed up to 20 years in the
state, and he believed that those ones can not hurt the
people they have been staying with for years now, that it is
those pass a bye herds men, that are responsible for this
crisis.
The CP in conclusion, said, the issue of the herds men is
a National Case as stated before, and for that, there will
be a National Conference in Abuja on the 8th to 9th of
May to discuss the way forward, or the federal government
should set means of eradicating or elevating them totally
in the states been affected most. The CP further
elucidated more on the National Conference, He said each
State across the Country will send the following delegates;
(Governor of the State(s), Commissioner of Police and any
other two top Government Officials from the State(s)), the
CP who was overwhelmed in the manner the leadership of
NANS JCC DTS Axis has comported herself, said the
leadership should bring one Delegate from the Student
Community who will represents the Students in the
National Conference in Abuja. That he will try and ensure
that the State Government will sponsor a Student to the
National Conference on Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th of
May 2017 to Abuja as an Observer and if need be, and
permitted, he will speak on behalf of the students there in
Abuja.
The Zonal Coordinator Pedro Chibuzo Obi who gave vote
of thanks to the CP, said the Nigerian Students are lucky
and happy for having a father as the CP, who always in all
time be for the Students.
After leaving the CP office, the Executives of NANS JCC
DTS Axis and other Union Leaders(SUG), proceeded to the
Office of the Director, State Security Service.
The Chairman, addressing the Director, apologized for
encountering her for the first time with a protest. Further
more, the Chairman read the copy of the Position Paper to
her and presented it to her officially.
In response, the Director, DSS appreciates the leadership
style of the NANS JCC executives, and said we should not
be far away from the service, that she is a Mother to the
Nigerian Students and the leadership of the Nigerian
Students in Delta State should work in synergy with the
service.
The Director of Action and Mobilization/Chairman;
Committee on Campus Affairs, while giving vote of thanks,
urged the Service to ensure the State Government put a
stop to the Menace of the Herds Men, as the Nigerian
Studentshave given a one month frame to the Government
to act, but for the Government remain stagnant, in
expiration of the one month frame, the Nigerian Students
will not hesitate to take more drastic move.
The Massive Peaceful Protest which was organized by the
