TASUED Vice-Chancellor Clears Issues On JAMB Cut-Off Mark

Image
Professor Oluyemisi Obilade wrote: The JAMB ADMISSION ISSUE: A NEED FOR CLARITY. Some of us who were physically present at the JAMB Policy meeting owe it a duty to clarify issues and right some wrongs in the reportage of the meeting.  It is a pity that the personality and position of the incumbent Registrar, Prof Oloyede, is being unfairly vilified when he should be commended. These are the facts as observed and as stated to us at the meeting. 1) JAMB was established at the instance of 13 Vice Chancellors some decades ago to stream-line the process of admission and eliminate the duplication of entrance examinations to universities. 2)JAMB, by the edict establishing it, is supposed to confine itself to the conduct of examinations and release of results to the universities. 3) The Senate of each university is then expected to decide on the admission criteria and CUT OFF MARKS. Please note that the Senate of the university is the highest body empowered to make policies /p

Femi Fani-Kayode; An Honest Politician I've Read

"Femi Fani-Kayode: An Honest Politician I've Read" I have always been in doubt wondering if there is any honest politician in this country and just this morning I have found another man in Femi Fani-Kayode. I never wanted to read his last memo on presidency but the dichotomy and exchange of words between him and Femi Adesina is driving my trance to reality. Quite when Mr Adesina was vouching to fight for his employer, Mr Buhari till grave, Fani-Kayode has given him what I think is the best reply. I laughed so hard when I read those lines in FFK write-ups when he said Buhari is reaping from what he had sowed in the early days of his life. When he mocked the ill-health or perhaps death of Buhari as believed by other Nigerians. The way you have highlighted the actions and inactions of Buhari from the days of civil war to how he boycotted our democracy in 1983 down to the contemporary state of the nature got my heart sinking. The long-winded list of the deaths of Christia

ARE WE TRULY LEADERS OF TOMORROW OR LEADERS OF TODAY

*ARE WE TRULY LEADERS OF TOMORROW OR LEADERS OF TODAY* Its so disheartening if the youths/students of 21st century can not be rational, critical and analytical in nature but dogmatic. If I may ask, why should we serve as stooge at the detriment of our future and unborn generations? We are all clamouring to be an agent of change of our society and generation but is so sardonic that we are agent of evil change, I'm stand to be corrected. The old fools ruling this nations takes running the affairs of this country as thug of war by attaining power with all cost which we all say its shouldn't be as we  are to be more realistic, optimistic, reasonable and diplomatic to attain political post without do or die affairs as it was in early 60s till date but it other way round, what a pity... Unionism/Activism as express by various scholars should be an avenue to struggle for same goal with common just, but this philosophy has been deviated from whereby 21st century are seeking a

NANS OGUN FORGIVE, BAIL STAINLESS FROM POLICE CUSTODY

The leadership of National Association of Nigeria  Students, Joint Campus Committee, Ogun State ably led by His Excellency, Senior Leader Comrade Olawale Balogun aka Movement has tempered justice with mercy by forgiving and bailled the "most wanted Nans impersonator in ogun", one Falola Hammed known as stainless. His arrest followed an attack he launched on the leadership of NANS/JCC Ogun at a burial arrangement of our late comrade Akinyemi Oluwaseun who died of chronic typhoid at the state general hospital in Isara, Remo North local government of Ogun state where both the JCC & Zone D executives were almost killed by stainless cohorts. Bloody Wednesday At Tasued

In the later hours of today at around 5:30pm, it was a bloody battle and a run for safety as hoodlums stormed the vicinity of Tai Solarin University of Education(TASUED) and attacked Comrade Falola Ahmed Olasunkanmi pka Stainless. Comrade Stainless who is the National Vice-president External, National Associationl of Nigerian Students was attacked by unknown armed men at Ijagun this evening and brutally injured. It was alleged by witnesses that the violent attack was led by Comrade Ogunsola Okiki NANS,Zone D Coordinator and Comrade Movement, the NANS Ogun JCC Chairman. The reason for the attack is yet to be ascertained as at the time of report. However, there are rumours that the state NANS is having a divided house and there are currently two factions in the state which could have led to opposition between the two factions and possibly reason for the attack. Comrade Stainless was rushed to an undisclosed private hospital in the state while a close associate said he is in coma as t

Unilag Management Finally Bow To Pressure To Reinstate Rusticated Students

Image
The management of the University of Lagos has reconsider it's decision on the rustication of the two students from the institution. It was gathered that one of the rusticated students, Lawrence Success is visually impaired. And this has enjoined public sympathy from both within and outside the nation. The two students are both graduate from the department of political science. The institution had given the reason behind the rustication for the contribution of the students to the peaceful protest held back in 2015 on the school campus while they where still students. Another source revealed that there might be more reasons for the unjust decision of the management being that Lawrence was the president of his department and Ochuba was his vice while on campus. And while Lawrence was crying out to the management to live up to its responsibilities, Ochuba was playing an active role of writing different articles on the failures of the school management as well. A similar case is the

Leadership crisis rocks Federal University Dutsinma By Habibu Umar Aminu, Katsina |

Leadership crisis is rocking the Federal  University Dutsinma, Katsina as the University's governing council under the leadership of Dr Marliya Zayyana and Vice Chancellor Professor Abdu Kaita are at loggerheads. Daily Trust learnt that both parties were accusing each other of undermining each other's authority at the university, a situation which is affecting the smooth running of the institution. Dr Zayyana, our reporter learnt, summoned a meeting where a decision to suspend the VC was taken, an action Professor Kaita said does not hold water, claiming that the members at the meeting were not duly elected by the University's congregation. Speaking with Daily Trust, Zayyana said it was a collective decision of the 19-member council to suspend the VC. She declined further comment. Other sources say the council is accusing the VC of awarding contracts without due procurement procedures. In his swift reaction, Kaita said he wouldn't be intimidated by their action, insisti

"REINSTATE FUTO 6 NOW; THEY ARE ACTIVISTS, NOT CRIMINALS" ANSA Cries Out

*ALLIANCE OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS AGAINST NEOLIBERAL ATTACKS (ANSA)* *REINSTATE FUTO 6 NOW; THEY ARE ACTIVISTS, NOT CRIMINALS* The Alliance of Nigerian Students against Neoliberal Attacks (ANSA) condemns with utmost vehemence, the expulsion of six student activists of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO). We consider as ruthless, despotic and unacceptable, the use of deplorable machinations of vindictive highhandedness to subvert legitimate demands of students of the institution, for the reversal of the undemocratic and arbitrary increment of fees. We forthwith, seize this medium to join the mass of students of the institution in calling for the immediate and unconditional reinstatement of the expelled activists and reversal of the increased school fees. We also demand the cancellation of all the illegal and arbitrary charges including the fraudulent course registration charges viz the dubious N10, 000 late registration fees.  It would be recalled that the students

Ogun House Of Assembly: Any Success So Far?

Ogun House Of Assembly: Any Success So Far? I would have received more than a thousands criticisms by now on my silence on everything going on in Ogun state. I should make it clear that I have not been too occupied not to feel concerned about the political success and gauche in the state since 2011. I have realised now is the right time to start talking on the necessary since I have been reading too many people coming for the occupation of our governor office come 2019.   I wouldn't want to talk about the occupant of that number one office of the state in Oke Mosan. Let us swing discussion on the powerful but flexible puppets of that occupant. Here I shall make my point on the gallant failure of the law makers of the state in terms of the state of education in the state under these puppets. Why I chose EDUCATION as my first theme is perhaps because I know education is the bedrock of success. Let us go back to 2011, when Sen. Amosun came into power in the state. There was only

A Nomad In Aso Rock

Obviously when we all saw Buhari came back to Nigeria earlier yesterday, all his lovers became happy that finally our president is back and healthy, not mentioning the fact that some people never wished for his comeback. I became more relaxed when I saw him onn channels TV as he came down from the flight in Kaduna. I became more confused immediately I got the news that president Buhari said Osinbajo will continue to be in charge of the office of the president. Why is Buhari not resuming to his office now that he is back in the country? Maybe his health is deteriorating , I guess. The debate was rolling in my mind while I read a confirmed news that Buhari is going back to London in two weeks time and the issue got more complicated. A rational man will say: why did he return in the first place? Perhaps the constitution forced him to. The constitution has it that a president shall not be absent from his office(responsibilities) for sixty days straight. I hope your mind is getting the

Confrontation; But where Are The Other Cs Of Aluta

In the recent time, I have taken a keen interest in observing the success of Students Unionism is Nigeria and I have no record to put together of achievement of this association. The question should be:Why is students unions failing in all institutions and at the national level?   In the olden days, whenever the students send a signal of raising aluta force against any person(s) or constituted authority, irrespective of the cabal involved in the oppression, they begin to shiver and sought for a way of calming the infuriating mood in the students and quickly reach for a solution to please their agitations. And if this is not done, the oppressors stand to lose a lot by the force of the aluta struggle. Unfortunately, in our days, the more we raise aluta force, the worse we begin to lose our weight of victory. What was in the unionism of those days that has been lost in the recent time? Let me relate the eight months scenario in LAUTECH and the STAFEC struggle of TASUED to this note,

The UNILAG Eleven And The Constituted Authority

The rustication of the UNILAG eleven is no more a news but the tussle between the eleven and the school management continues to refresh the headlines as each day passes. The students showed their grievance yesterday in a protest tagged as OccupyUnilag. Some of the aggrieved students were seen putting on shirts with their names written on it as constituted authority, mimicking the perceived oppressive management. The protest which saw the almalgation of Nigerian Students from different institutions of the country received a quite good encomium from Nigerian students from other institutions while majority of the concerned students, Akokites as they are fondly called, only kept to the corner of their hostels showing indifference to the staged protest against the school management. Some angles relates that the protest is not for the eleven students collectively but only in support of Femi Adeyeye, one of the eleven students who was rusticated on the basis of writing an article which debase

TASUEDSU AND THE LOST PRIORITY

Image
I got stuck of words when I saw a post on this platform as regard the disrepair status of the Students Parliamentary Council of Tasued. Check http://www.theowlcampus.com/tasued-student-union-parliamentary-chamber-or-shame-bar/  This was at a time when I was still holding my own pen firmly to touch naivety of the UBUNTU regime. I have found complete failure on the part of the Students Parliamentary Council(SPC), the organ which is expected to be the most influential arm in the school unionism, but it is so only on paper. The legislative room which has been turned to a relaxation centre where students charge their phones and meet their boyfriends and girlfriends. The council gave me the surprise of my life when it locked up the room because a phone that belong to one of the senators was stolen in the process of charging in what hit up to a bunfight in the Student Union Building(SUB). In the recent days, I have found it difficult to distinguish 'check and balance' and antago

XENOPHOBIA : The Fruit We Deserve?

I have read the news and watched different videos on the attack on Nigerians in the state of South Africa and the only thing I feel is lack of enthusiasm or perhaps no 'sorry' feeling in the least way. Some will say I'm always a critic even at bad moments, if that is what you feel then open your head and read this with an open mind. I will have my say here for every Nigerian to read.    I can remember too well in 2015 when this thing happened in this same country to Nigerians. I really felt bad for my brothers and sisters over there. I joined the millions of Nigerians who called for the dissolve of South Africans' investment in Nigeria. I agitated for the retaliation on South Africa's citizen in this 'grate' nation. I wrote a memo in this manner am writing this but not in this kind of mood. And soon enough the attack stopped and there was peace for the time being. After peace was brought back, in my mind, I envisaged a government who will swing into acti

LIFE; A COMPLEX LABYRINTH

That moment you feel your life has demanded a lot from you and has given you less. You feel like you’ve been going down the wrong path, you realize all your efforts has been futile. Well, there’s a saying that life gives you what you deserve not what you desire. Life is filled with hardships. We all Live separate distinct lives. Everyone unique in his own way. Looking at life as a complex labyrinth. Your rights might be someone else wrongs. Your ego, pride, attitude, perception might hinder you from moving on in life. Life as we all know it, ain’t fair…and if you didn’t know, well you just knew. Life doesn’t regard men. Whatever the challenges are, never give up, endure. It doesn’t matter how many times you’re tried, don’t stop trying. You may put so much into making things work out in life, but at the end, you don’t get what you truly deserve. You did your best but you have nothing to show forth. It can be very frustrating having done everything humanly possible to achieve a goal i

Where is my president?

It wouldn't surprise me by now if I start seeing condolence messages as regard our president by this day since the presidency is keeping unnecessary silence. It's high time Mr president came out live on TV station and address the nation. Nigeria is a country of about two hundred millions of population of people, and the President staying abroad for too long than necessary for no acceptable reason is unwarranted. Truly Mr Buhari is a citizen and does deserve privacy and should enjoy every civil right such as freedom to talk when he wish and to keep mute at will. But the truth has to be told and reality need to be faced. Mr Buhari need to realise that the moment he became the President of this country, he ceases to be an ordinary man and his privacy won't be no more totally guaranteed. The affairs of this nation for the next two years lies within his decision and by implication the future of every Nigerian. We should not play mind politics at the expense of our survival, n

The Hitting Fire At TASUED

To silent the critics who have been throwing accusations at me for not saying anything on the issue of Save TASUED And Fund Education Coalition(STAFEC), I will declare my stance here and make my opinions known. Of all messages have received, the one which is of interest to me the most is the words of one Mr. FABULOUS which says "If you remain silent on the part of justice, you are already on the side of the oppressors", and I wouldn't deny that am only responding because of this and I'm going to give my response according to his words.   As a students, it should interest me to understand the situation of things before jumping into action so the captive won't end up as the captors' machinery. To start with, I will outline the cause of the grievance of the students -The increment in Acceptance Fee from #30,000 To #40,000 -School fees #76,500 -Increment of Vocational Studies Fee from #1000 to #25,000 -#10,100 tax clearance which students are enforced to pa

Way Out Of Recession

The current economic situation of Nigeria has brought about blame game in the country and we do not want to admit that we all collectively asked for recession in a way we either didn't realise or turn deaf ears to. As a concerned citizen, permit me to rub mind with you that President Buhari is not the cause of the recession but the collective will of the people. We all should be thankful that a man like Buhari is holding the office of the president of this nation at a time like this because he has sincerely revealed to us the state of the country unlike his predecessors who were fond of lying and covering their shortcomings because they were filled with evil stomachs. Of course if President Buhari has continued to lie like others did, we wouldn't realise that Nigeria has lost it feet a long time ago. We are all complaining of the economic hardship because he is not ready to profligate the nation's treasuries like the previous governments and as remained adamant on the

NYSC And The Lost Heritage

NYSC And Its Lost Heritage  In the month of May of 1973 when the military administration of General Yakubu Gowon enacted decree 24 which gave birth to NYSC in Nigeria "with a view to the proper encouragement and development of common ties among the youths of Nigeria and the promotion of national unity" as part of the 3R programmes aftermath the civil war, it truly gained momentum and performed notable functions of its course. And it did encourage unity among the youth graduates of the of the six universities in the country then. It created opportunities for the tens of thousands graduates in the nation.  And with decree No.51 of of June 16th 1993,it purposes were well spelt out as follows "To inculcate discipline in Nigerian youths by instilling in them a tradition of industry at work, and of patriotic and loyal service to Nigeria in any situation they may find themselves. To raise the moral tone of the Nigerian youths by giving them the
Is religion our problem? My dearest brothers and sisters in this great nation, permit me to correct the ills being perceived about religion in this country. There has not been a day I tuned to listen into radio stations or watch television stations news and won't see or hear the word "religion* in/on the headline. If all really believe in the 'creator' then there wouldn't be religion crisis the least. I stand to argue that what we practice today is but a deceit against our own conscience. I look at people pitifully when I see them dressed in their best attires on Fridays and Sundays going to mosque and church respectively. And I wonder if they are worshipping their ego or God.  I will like to come out frank and expose the dubious imams and pastors who are nothing but opposite of what they preach in reality. Somebody might rebuke me for throwing such a jibe without the least respect, I don't mind! Nigeria has the highest number of worship places(mosque a
Who will save us? This country will not be saved from her quagmire until we have leaders and not rulers with right-minded youths willing to save their land.   I have thought and watched Nigeria political scene since I became conscious of my environment and haven't seen any change, not even the names of those dubious sit-tight rulers change but only the offices they hold changes. And I start to wonder if there are youths in Nigeria at all who loves freedom and liberty. We have only turned ourselves to puppets in the hands of this politicians to drive us psychologically and physically to achieving their aims all in the name of 'what shall we eat?'. It saddens my heart when I see Nigeria's youths posting pictures on social media while they club on weekends.I wonder how quickly we react to controversial issues surrounding our celebrities but show little or no interest at all when issues rise up among the rulers of this country which is indirectly affecting t
